Ira Levin,the popular author whose best selling novels were often made into popular movies staring big names, perished last night at the age of 78 at his New York City Apartment.

Levin, a New York native wrote a number of popular novels that have become prominent pieces of fiction. His best known was likely the 1967 horror thriller Rosemary’s Baby, which ascended up the bestseller charts. The story of a young pregnant woman, who begins to suspect that she may be having the child of Satan, eventually became a blockbuster hit of the same name that was directed the following year by renowned film director Roman Polanski, with Mia Farrow and John Cassevetes in the staring roles.

Rosemary’s Baby wasn’t the only hit Levin penned. Others included the Nazi sci-fi thriller The Boys From Brazil, the Stepford Wives, Sliver, and the stage play Death Game.
