Could a Swift Boat 527 be Waiting in the wings for Gulliani ?

In 2008 Presidential Elections, History, politics on November 19, 2007 by Editor Z

A band of family members related to firefighters and 9/11 first responders, are contemplating starting a 527 political group, to expose what they see as the falsehoods of Republican Presidential nominee and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s performance during the 9/11 attacks.

They are said to be forming ties with political consultants and will come to a decision soon on whether or not to crate such a group.

Members of the small group involved call mayor Giuliani’s account of his performance on 9/11 “egregious”. Amongst other claims they echo those by past critics of Giuliani’s much lauded performance during and in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks that reduced the World trade center to rubble, that Giuliani provided radios of poor quality to Emergency first responders.

MY TAKE: The article makes reference to the now infamous Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, who went after U.S Senator and 2004 Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry, disputing his record on the war In Vietnam and blasting his actions when he joined the Anti-war movement upon returning home.

Like Kerry’s War record, Giuliani’s image on 9/11 is his greatest strength, it is the reason why he is able to run for president. It is an experience and event that could cause voters especially in the primaries to flock to him, as just his image on that day can bolster his security credentials. But like in 2004, much like Kerry painted himself as a war hero and built his candidacy on that, Giuliani is doing the same with his image, building it solely on his 9/11 image. That could be an ingredient for disaster if Democrats take his biggest asset which is the foundation of his entire candidacy, then either find failures in his actions on 9/11 or raise doubts about it. That would be an approach straight out of the Karl Rove playbook.
