1801: John Marshall becomes the first ever Chief Justice of the U.S Supreme Court when he is sworn in.

1899: The long and Bloody occupation of the Philipines begins, in the Philipine-American War.

1915: As war grips Europe, Germany creates a submarine blockade encircling the United Kingdom.

1936: Radium E is discovered to be the very first elemnet to be created synthedically.

1943: On the eastern front the Battle of Stalingrad ends.

1945: The leaders of the United States, United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union meet for what becomes known as the Yalta Conference.

1969: As tensions reach a fever pitch in the Middle East, Yasser Arafat becomes chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

1970: U.S President Richard Nixon puts forth the idea of an enviromental clean-up organization that will eventually be the Enviromental Protection Agency (EPA).

1974: In California, the 19 year old heriess to Hearst Publishing Patty Hearst is abducted by the Sibeonese Liberation Army (SLA).

1991: The decision is made to ban Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame for gambling.
