1873: The Spanish National Assembly in passes a law banning the practice of slavery in Puerto Rico.

1895: The first screening of motion pictures before a private audience occurs.

1942:During World War II, the Second Battle of Sirte begins, between the British Royal Navy and the Italian Regia Marina.

1972: An Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S Constitution prohibiting gender discrimination passes the U.S Senate.

1972: A National Commission recommends the legalization of marijuana.

1980: Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” tops music charts.
