As everyone knows who has watched the news in the past 72 hours knows, “Joe the Plumber” is now the latest prop of the McCain campaign and Republican party. Joe first came to their recognition when he was caught on video in Ohio questioning Obama’s tax plan that would tax those who make $250,000 a year or more.
“Joe” stated that he was seeking to buy his bosses business which makes about $250,000 to $280,000 a year.
Well as McCain has thrust this poor Ohio guy onto the national stage, with the national media camped out in front of his house, people combing through his financial records and tax records, it has been discovered that the only word true in the phrase “Joe the Plumber” about the guy in question is the word “the”. Turns out “Joe the Plumber” is about as real as “Bob the Builder”.
HOLLAND, Ohio (AP) — Joe the Plumber’s story sprang a few leaks Thursday. Turns out that the man who was held up by John McCain as the typical, hard-working American taxpayer isn’t really a licensed plumber. And court documents show he owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes.
“Joe,” whose name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, was cited repeatedly in Wednesday night’s final presidential debate by McCain for questioning Barack Obama’s tax policy.
Wurzelbacher instantly became a media celebrity, fielding calls during the debate and facing reporters outside his home near Toledo on Thursday morning for an impromptu nationally irresponsible to do that and televised news conference.
First I want to just say I think it is uncalled for and even dangerous that this guys address has been published on some blogs. In this time when some incidents of violence have broken out between supporters of each campaign, it seems irresponsible to do such a thing and make a person like “Joe” a target of such hateful reprisals.
Having said that, “Joe the Plumber” as pointed out earlier, doesn’t exist. His name is Samuel, Not Joe. he isn’t a plumber. He isn’t a law abiding citizen but a tax cheat, and he is a registered Republican, who in the Rush Limbaugh mold calls social security “a Joke”. And he isn’t buying his bosses small business and even if he was it wouldn’t be worth $250,000.
Nevertheless, he seems to be the new man crush of the conservative movement as they just can’t stop talking about him. he is now appearing on Fox News and other conservative outlets almost nonstop and is being sought after to be at campaign events. Here is McCain, forgetting he was the one who mentioned “Joe’s” name twenty-two times in the debate on Wendsday night, latest statement slamming the Obama campaign for defaming the fictional “Joe the plumber”
It’s great to be here in Miami. Florida is a must-win state on November 4th, and with your help, we’re going to win Florida, and bring change to Washington, DC. We had a good debate this week. You may have noticed– there was a lot of talk about Senator Obama’s tax increases and Joe the Plumber. Last weekend, Senator Obama showed up in Joe’s driveway to ask for his vote, and Joe asked Senator Obama a tough question. I’m glad he did; I think Senator Obama could use a few more tough questions.
The response from Senator Obama and his campaign yesterday was to attack Joe. People are digging through his personal life and he has TV crews camped out in front of his house. He didn’t ask for Senator Obama to come to his house. He wasn’t recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Senator Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks.
Allowed to ask someone questions? Obviously his running mate didn’t get the memo on that one. So what do “Joe the Plumber” and WMDs in Iraq have in common? Bush minded conservatives are the only ones who don’t know that neither of the two exist.
